Welcome to the revive285 top end website!
It’s no secret that Atlanta is plagued with traffic, and one of the most congested areas lies between I-75 and I-85 on the top end of I-285. In 2006, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority launched revive285 top end to develop a solution to the traffic challenges on this vital corridor. Since then, the project team has been in the process of the development, identification and selection of solutions to improve congestion, safety, system linkage and transportation options on this section of I-285. Explore this site to learn more about the project, how the alternatives are developed and chosen, and what the next steps are to improve I-285 top end’s usability.
A Quick Status Report
In 2011, project engineers and environmental specialists assessed the environmental impacts that could result from the implementation of the I-285 top end alternatives currently under consideration. As a result of this effort, many historic houses and historic districts, as well as parkland, were identified as Section 4(f) resources under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). As a result, design engineers worked to reduce the footprints of the build alternatives and to update project costs.
Revisions to the build alternatives have been made and will be fully complete in 2012. The current updated versions are detailed here.
