Mapping Tool

The revive285 top end project has created an interactive mapping tool that virtually maps, in detail, each of four alternatives currently under consideration to address travel and traffic issues on I-285’s top end.    If you have not used it before, we recommend you take a moment to explore the tool features and the nuances of using it in the brief tutorial below.  If you are already familiar with the tool, click here to access it directly.

Blue ArrowHow to Use the Mapping Tool

To Begin, choose an alternative.

Using the links in the left hand column, choose an alternative to review.

Clicking an alternative will activate a pop-up description and a rendering of an aspect of the alternative. Clicking on the rendering image will enlarge it. To close the overview, click the close icon in the upper right corner of the overview.

Only once the overview is closed, may you explore this alternative on the map using the following tools.

Blue ArrowMoving Along the Corridor

Clicking the map legend link will show you the key for aspects of the alternatives as detailed on the map.  Most of these items are not visible until zooming in on a specific location.

To begin moving about the map:

In general, to zoom in or out, use the slider.

To move north, south, east or west along the corridor, use the arrow icons along the perimeter of the map.

Blue ArrowNavigation Toolbar

You can always return to the base map of your alternative by clicking on the world icon. The base map is the zoomed out overview of the entire corridor.

Use the toolbar arrows to move back in time to view what you previously zoomed in on and then forward again.

Use the hand tool to grab and move the map east, west, north or south along the corridor. Hold down the mouse button and drag your cursor in the direction you would like to view.

Use the quick zoom tool to access viewpoints and 3D images of a popular location on the corridor.

Blue ArrowMap Features

Over major intersections and areas of considerable change, you may see a viewpoint, which is a yellow shaded triangle with an eye icon at one apex.

The viewpoint location indicates that if you:

Click on the viewpoint you will see a 3D image depicting the intersection from from the perspective of the eye. (See next image.)

This is an example of what Alternative 4 --  looking north up 400 at the Ga-400/I-285 interchange -- might look like.

Or if you right-click, you will see a close up of the area as it currently exists in Google Maps (See image to right.).  Use this feature to compare and contrast how things may change vs. how they are today.

Now that you are familiar with the mapping tool, enjoy using it to closely examine the impacts of each alternative.

Remember to be patient as you explore; the complexity of the revive285 top end project and its alternatives will become apparent.

All information in the mapping tool is as current and accurate as available.  Note that mapping of Alternative 6b is available for review, but 6b viewpoints will not be available until modeling is completed in summer 2011. Alternative concepts shown are for illustrative purposes only and do not represent precise boundaries or footprints.
