Many projects have been planned, or are currently in progress, per Envision6, Metro Atlanta's Regional Transportation Plan. These projects may be implemented separately from or as part of the revive285 top end project and will impact the overall corridor plan. Ideally, there will be incremental improvements, that can be moved along more rapidly, which will work into the overarching solution. Information on the status of projects is available through the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) website via the links below.
Repositioning of I-285 EB Off Ramp to Glenridge Dr. (Completed 6/11)
This GDOT project, formally titled "I-285 @ CR 2067/GLENRIDGE DRIVE" was initially identified early on in the planning process of the revive285top end project as a Quick Response Operational Improvement Project. It extends the eastbound Glenridge Drive/Connector off ramp, allowing it to transition earlier off of I-285 E and separate from GA 400 on ramp traffic earlier than previously configured. This project was completed in June 2011.
Roswell Road Bridge over I-285 Operational and Safety Improvements (In Progress)
The project will include the construction of additional width on the northbound side of the existing bridge. This will allow for two, 11’ wide, northbound and southbound travel lanes as well as full, 11’ wide, dedicated left turn lanes onto entrance ramps for I-285. Additional width to the westbound and eastbound on ramps for I-285 will be constructed to accommodate dual ramp meters and additional storage capacity. Short sections of concrete raised median are also proposed at both ends of the bridge to improve operational circulation. Project is currently in design and was let for construction in April 2011; public information meetings will be held in in 2012.
Ashford Dunwoody Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) (In Progress)
The Ashford Dunwoody diverging diamond interchange is a capacity and safety improvement project intended to assist in relieving the severe congestion along Ashford Dunwoody Road in the critical area surrounding I-285 without replacing the existing bridge. The DDI concept will use restriping, altered signal timing, improved turning conditions and one reconstructed ramp to move traffic faster, reduce congestion and reduce accidents due to fewer traffic points of conflict, specifically left turns. This project was let for construction in August 2011, and should be completed by end of 2012.
